What getSend is

getSend is a throwaway mailbox. You think up any name at the domain getsend.xyz, and the address is ready straight away. There is no registration, no account, no password and no payment details. Using it is free. The service has been running since 2014.

getsend.xyz is the only domain on offer. Addresses are not reserved, and there is no check on who is using one. Several people can use the same name at the same time.

The benefit can be stated exactly. To the sender, and to the site you sign up with, you give no address of your own. Your real address therefore does not end up on their mailing list. That does not apply to us as the operator: on every visit, the IP address, the browser identification, the address requested, the referring page and the time are logged and deleted after 90 days. What else is stored is set out in the privacy policy.

Picking an address and receiving mail

Enter a name on the home page or under Inbox and submit the form. Your mailbox is then open. Letters, digits, dots and hyphens are allowed.

After that, give the address wherever it is asked for, for example as name.of.your.choice@getsend.xyz. When mail arrives, it shows up in the mailbox without you having to reload the page. A short sound plays when a new message comes in; that can be switched off.

One thing is important here: There is no password, neither for individual mailboxes nor as an extra feature. Anyone who knows or guesses the name sees the same messages you do, without signing in and without you finding out. Short, obvious names are opened by strangers on a regular basis. A long, unusual string of characters makes guessing harder, but it is not protection.

Replying, forwarding, deleting

A click on a line opens the message. Every message gives you three options: reply, forward to another address, or delete.

Replies and forwards go out from your getSend address. The recipient sees that address and can answer it; the answer then lands in the same open mailbox. So write nothing you would not want left sitting there.

Images and hidden content are removed at first when a message is displayed. You can load them with one click. Many senders use exactly those images to tell that you opened the message, and when.

Deleting removes the message from the mailbox straight away. We cannot bring it back.

Sending messages, and why they wait

Under New E-Mail you can write a message yourself. The sender is the getSend address you picked. Attachments are possible; each uploaded file is limited to around 2 megabytes, because the server caps uploads there. Incoming messages are accepted up to around 25 megabytes. Some file extensions are blocked.

Outgoing messages do not go out at once. They are checked for abuse before delivery and only sent on afterwards. There is therefore a wait between sending and arrival, and we do not promise how long it will be. If something has to reach the recipient within the next minute, this form is the wrong way to do it.

If a message breaks the terms, it is discarded during the review. And beyond that there is no promise that a message will arrive: the spam filters of other providers often reject mail from throwaway domains.

Setting up forwarding to your own address, and ending it

There is a section for forwarding on the home page. You enter three things there: the getSend address the mail goes to, your own address as the destination, and an end date that you pick yourself.

After you submit, a message with a confirmation link goes to the destination address you entered. The forwarding only runs once you have clicked that link. That way nobody can enter an address belonging to someone else. So enter only addresses you are entitled to use yourself.

Every forwarded message carries an unsubscribe link. One click on it ends the forwarding immediately. If you do nothing, it stops automatically on the end date you picked.

What is deleted, and when

There is no archive. Everything that is stored disappears again automatically:

  • incoming messages and their attachments after 7 days,
  • uploaded attachments that never turned into a sent message, after 4 days,
  • access logs after 90 days.

You do not have to wait for that: you can delete a message yourself at any time. We do not restore anything deleted or expired. So save what you want to keep in good time.

What getSend is not good for

Mailboxes can be read without a password. That is not a fault, it is how the service works: without registration there is nothing anyone could identify themselves with.

The contents of the messages are not encrypted. Only the connection between your browser and our server is encrypted, the same as on any other website. That says nothing about the security of the messages themselves. Email as such is not end to end encrypted on its way through the internet either.

So send nothing to a getSend mailbox that would harm you the moment someone else reads it: passwords, login links, two-factor codes, invoices, contracts, health, ID or banking data. Do not use an address like this for accounts that matter to you, for mail from authorities, for job applications, or for resetting passwords either. If you need a fixed, reliable address, this is the wrong place; we promise neither that the service will be available nor that a message will arrive.

And there is one promise we do not make, whatever you read elsewhere: no service can see to it that you never get spam again. What getSend can do is narrower, and it holds up: for this one sign-up, your real address stays out of it.
